Semenawa Redefined
This workshop by master Jyubei Kamui (神威十兵衛) gives us a refined look at traditional semenawa.
Within the short history of modern shibari the 'traditional' type of semenawa originates with Akechi Denki (明智伝鬼) and Matsui Kenji (松井健二) who began practicing their art in the '80s and '90s. Master Jyubei studied directly under Matsui sensei and also under Miura Takumi sensei. The latter was second president of Bakuyukai (縛友会) that he founded together with Akechi Denki in 1996.
The semenawa practiced by Matsui sensei is based on tying male prisoners to facilitate torture. It is therefore quite different from today's mainstream kinbaku that aims at providing sensual and erotic pleasure.
After the passing away of Miura Takumi sensei in November 2021, Jyubei Kamui is now the third-generation (sandaime, 三代目) headmaster of the Bakuyukai Society.

What Awaits You Inside
On a trip down memory lane Jyubei sensei shares his experiences from the past, including how he had been mentored by Matsui Kenji (松井健二) and Miura Takumi (神浦匠), and explains to us the significance of the bakuyukai (縛友会).
We are then treated to a range of bondages/ties (shibarikata, 縛り方) and suspension transitions.
In sequential order these are:
1) A Miura-based tengu (天狗) shibari transitioning into a full suspension.
2) A 'vertical'-cum-faceup' suspension with a Matsui-based yotsubiki (四つ引き) technique.
3) A Jyubei-inspired original teppo (鉄砲) shibari transitioning into a full suspension.
4) A quick primer on one of several dozen ways to create diamond (hishi, 菱) patterns.
5) As a final highlight we are treated to an impromptu suspension performance.
